Yeovil, a place known for gloves and helicopters is now known for something else – poetry! Eight on Silver Street became the first gig for the Alive Poets Society, a new collective of artists bringing poetry off the page and onto the stage.
The collective formed of Dan Wakeman, Sarah Moore and Kara Bignell-Bird held their first gig on 21st August 2024 at Eight on Silver Street. Headliner was Devonian Scouser Kev McCready.

All of the four performers work in other disciplines – Dan produces sculptures, Kara and Sarah are work-shoppers and Kev is known for his appearances on podcasts and book blogging.
The work ranged from the sad to the surreal and the heartfelt to the hilarious. Audience members were encouraged to write their own poems and a queue to the stage stretched to the door.

This is just the start for the APS and they’ve still not reached the peak of fame. Further events are planned. Follow them on Facebook to be informed of future events.
