Poetry

Here are some poems from my collection

Stories

They say we are made of atoms,
But I know we are made of stories.
Maybe you're stuck on one page
You're reading the words over and over
It feels like you'll be here forever.

But over the page is a new chapter
Fresh ink and different words
Cherry blossom trees and cool mountain air
A scene entirely new.

We are stories, each of us.
Stories your gran might sum up in a few words
When she tells you about the lady down the street.

Stories with many twists and turns.
One difficult chapter
Leads to the best time we ever had
If only we can just hang on
Wait to get to the end of the page,
See how this story turns out.
Letting go/Cherry blossom

The cherry blossom falls
Softly, swirling, teasing, drifting
I cannot rush to stick you back with sticky tape
So that your branches remain pink forever.

You will be barren again.
The earth desires your rose coloured tears
Until next Spring, when your blooms make us
Gasp and stop and wonder.

Blue skies are back

Blue skies are back
A shock of brilliance
That leaves you weak at the knees
Stumbling backwards
Blinded by this technicolour.

Blue skies are back
And suddenly the storm is gone.
The rain of your tears evaporated
The promise of a future and hope.

Blue skies are back.
Hi Hope

Don't get your hopes high
Is what they say
But who are 'they' to know this anyway?Don't you know - hope has kept people alive?
It has seen whole villages survive.

So I will say hello to hope.
I will let her into my life
I will hang onto the balloon by the rope
And when it's time I'll know
To let that string go
I will watch as it ventures up into the sky
Believing so much this one will go high
And if it gets stuck in a tree
Or worse - pop!
That one thing will not put a stop
To my hope.

And for me-
There's a bunch of balloons in my hand
And I know at least one
Will not fall to the ground.
This one will soar up to the sky
And in that moment my dreams will fly
It will touch something real up there in the blue.

And when that occurs
I'll be glad that I knew
To say Hi to hope and give her a chance
To rise up to the sky
Because hope, I believe, lifts you high.
